“Having consulted with Nancy previously, I knew instantly that she was the person to contact when challenged with my latest training project. I am an accomplished professional, PhD, recognized in my field of trauma resolution. A Broadway producer and director invited me to work with their cast. It was the first time since the beginning of Covid that this theater group would assemble in person and there was a sense that actors reading their parts in a play about trauma would experience intense feelings and triggers. My job would be to help the cast notice activation and have strategies to return to regulation.
I gladly accepted the invitation, confident that I had techniques and tools to offer; HOWEVER, I found, as soon as I attempted to organize my thoughts and work out a plan… I went spiraling into an outer orbit-that’s how it felt. I was disorganized, in a frenzy. I cursed myself for taking this on in the first place; avoided it and wanted out.
Enter Nancy—even though I thought I was familiar enough with the polyvagal states, I had become so immersed that I was unable to recognize what was going on. From the get- go Nancy’s assistance was enormous and crucial to my success. She helped me ground, helped me notice and name the states and identify the characteristic behaviors, thoughts, and feelings of each. I was amazed and enthralled how seamlessly I shifted into realizing the positive motivations and feelings of why I had taken on this project. And even the anticipation of having fun. With Nancy I recognized the familiarity of the crazy making process I go through—ugh- and then how wonderful to see my way clear- to be present, to own that I know what I know, what I’m doing, and why I chose to do it.
Nancy also suggested since the group I’d be working with were actors- I might want to reveal the process I went through, as they might very well resonate with it. Indeed! That was a great starting off point and it enabled me to enjoy my own moments on stage.
Working with Nancy is such a pleasure. Even though there is a sense of purpose in our work together, she is a joy to be with. She is highly attuned, sincere, and creative.”
