“Understanding the role of our nervous system is fundamental to comprehending our choices in life.”
— Nancy Rubbico
My passion is to make Polyvagal Theory accessible to everyone. As mammals and humans, understanding the role of our nervous system is fundamental to comprehending our choices in life.
My experience with working on complex trauma and dissociation has informed me how to help guide individuals from a survival mode response to a more flexible, resourced, and resilient response. With my training in EMDR, Sensorimotor psychotherapy, AEDP, and active use of these modalities to help build different skills and awareness, I continue to be confident that the use of PVT is a foundational cornerstone in understanding the biological system and the patterning that happens with complex trauma.
As I came to clinical work later in life, my background and exposure to other work experiences have served me well in my clinical work and with my clients (individuals and couples) not dealing with complex trauma. Polyvagal theory quickly helped these clients with their communication, understand their choices, connect more deeply, understand their body’s reactions, and improve their skills.
My past work experiences and some childhood experiences have also informed my creative process. I grew up mostly on the East Coast, but I lived in Africa, Germany, France, and England for periods of time before junior high. Before my psychotherapy career, I worked at a clinic assisting in exams and running educational courses for patients, was a division director running the high-tech division in charge of fundraising campaigns for the Boston United Way, worked in sales for a software company selling fundraising software to large non-profits throughout the US, and took a break to stay home with our three children and became a Lactation Specialist running mothers’ groups and doing home visits. This last experience started my interest in understanding the important role of our biological systems, specifically prolactin and oxytocin.

“My mission is to make this knowledge accessible to all, to uplift and transform lives by fostering a deep understanding of the nervous system and its impact on behavior.”
— Nancy Rubbico
I believe my past work experiences and childhood have given me a perspective that allows me to adapt easily to different audiences, and this richness of experience is informing my creative process to bring your theory out to the world. My mission is to make this knowledge accessible to all, to uplift and transform lives by fostering a deep understanding of the nervous system and its impact on behavior. With this understanding, individuals can be empowered to communicate more effectively, increase awareness of their choices, create satisfying connections, access more curiosity and openness, and increase their sense of compassion to overcome difficult situations. Interactions will be more effective and enriching.
I believe the world needs this more than ever!
