As individuals become more in tune with their own impulses, they can develop empathy and strengthen their relationships with others, resulting in a ripple effect of positive change. The BOCAS Method empowers individuals to change their personal narratives and influence the stories of the world around them, creating a snowball effect of positive growth and transformation. The BOCAS Method was designed to simplify complex concepts of human behavior, making them accessible to everyone and enabling each person to reach their full potential and lead a fulfilling life. Our mission is to empower individuals to effect positive change and achieve their full potential.

The thread of Nancy Rubbico’s experiences has led her to a deep understanding of the nervous system and how it impacts human behavior. As a licensed psychotherapist, she’s seen first-hand what being trapped in a cycle of anxiety and stress can do. As an international consultant and trainer, she’s worked with individuals and organizations all over the world to help them understand the relationship between their nervous systems and their behaviors, empowering them to make real change.

We are all guided by the complexities of our nervous systems. During Nancy’s work as a psychotherapist, she helped her clients understand Polyvagal Theory, enabling clients to change their behaviors, emotions, and how they experience life. While working as a consultant, trainer, and workshop leader, she quickly realized that this theory could be a powerful tool for everyone.  She began to develop a method of applying Polyvagal Theory in meaningful ways to everyday life.

Nancy developed the BOCAS Method as a framework for understanding, identifying, and adapting the biological impact of the nervous system on behavior. She drew on her experiences of working across sectors and fields to adapt Polyvagal theory to the real world. Using her knowledge as a trainer for the Polyvagal Institute, her training in EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, AEDP (Attachment Theory), and Yoga, she built the Bocas Method as a cross-discipline practice that can be applied to a variety of situations. The richness of these varied experiences has led Nancy to understand that many people want the tools to move beyond feeling stuck, to access the possible, to access clarity, to have choice, and to walk through life with a sense of ease.   

She’s also drawn on her life experiences as a mother, a wife, and a chaos organizer of two dogs, to build the Bocas Method as a robust framework that considers the complexities of the human existence.

As a species, we’ve traded the threat of the literal jungle to our everyday living, whether it is at work or in our personal life. The tools that have been baked into our biology can create roadblocks to feeling heard, having clarity, and knowing there is choice. So how do we empower ourselves and those we interact with to overcome an unfounded alarm response? How do we break down the barriers that prevent true connection and success?

The Bocas Method is a framework to not only understand the connection between the nervous system and human behavior but also to create a plan of action. Rooted in Polyvagal Theory, The Bocas Method breaks down the complexities of the biological systems behind human behavior in way that can empower anyone to advance their journey towards wellness, balance, and healthy relationships.
